The updated COVID-19 booster shot that targets both the original virus and the BA.4 and BA.5 variants is now available in greater Green Bay, with health care providers and major pharmacies scheduling appointments.
On Aug. 31, the Food & Drug Administration approved the "bivalent" vaccine. The Pfizer-BioNTech booster is for anyone 12 and older, while the Moderna booster is for those 18 and older.
The new shots are not likely to provide a huge benefit over the original vaccine, according to scientists. But any boost in protection is worthwhile,potentially preventing death, hospitalization and long COVID-19, government officials said.
COVID-19, which still accountsfor about60,000 cases, 5,000 hospitalizationsand 350 deaths a dayin the U.S., is expected to surge again this fall and winter, as it has in both previous years of the pandemic.
CVS, Meijer and Walgreens are already offering the updated booster in Brown County.
Bellin Health is offering the boosters for those 12 and older at all of its vaccination locations.
“As cases of COVID-19 continue to circulate in our communities, the bivalent booster dose will provide a broader layer of protection for individuals, including better protection against the omicron variants — which are now the dominant strain of the virus,” said Bellin Health infection prevention specialist Jennifer Kuhn.
Prevea is offering the booster at select Prevea Health locations for those 12 and older.
Below is a list we compiled of places to get the COVID-19 vaccination and the updated boosters. The state Department of Health Services also has a site to help you locate vaccine providers.

Bellin Health
To schedule a COVID-19 vaccination, go to mybellin.org or call 920-445-7313. Vaccinations are available at the following locations:
- Bellin Health Primary Care clinics.
- Bellin FastCare locations seven days at week at 1976 Lime Kiln Road and 2015 Shawano Ave. (inside Meijer). Walk-ins are welcome.
- Bellin Fastlane, 1920 Libal St.
Appointments are required for all booster shots.
Bellin also received a limited quantity of the Novavax vaccine, which will be administered from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Wednesdays at Bellin Health FastCare east and west Green Bay locations only.
Prevea Health
Vaccinations are being offered at Prevea Health Centers in northeastern Wisconsin. You do not need to be a Prevea patient to receive one.
COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters are available at:
- HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital, 835 S. Main St., Oconto Falls
- Prevea East Mason Health Center, 3021 Voyager Drive, Green Bay.
- Prevea Howard Health Center, 2793 Lineville Road, Howard.
Appointments will be needed to get a vaccine at a Prevea location.

Brown County Public Health
Brown County reminds residents that:
- The COVID-19 vaccination is free. If you receive a bill contact the organization that sent the bill or a community support agency.
- Social Security number and insurance are not required to receive the vaccine.
- Call your provider, a community support agency, or Brown County Public Health (920-448-6400) if you encounter difficulty with billing or access.
Community support agencies include:

Advocate Aurora
- Sign up for an appointment on Aurora's LiveWell appor by calling866-443-2584 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

De Pere Health Department
The health department is holding influenza and COVID-19 vaccination clinics. All clinics are appointment only. At most of the clinics,Johnson & Johnson and the Pfizer vaccines will be available, including booster shots.

The updated COVID-19 booster will be available to those 18 and older from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at the community center, 610 Grant St., and for those 12 and older from 4-5:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the community center.
The health department is also sponsoringa drive-thru flu vaccine and COVID-19 booster from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 8 at St. Anne's Episcopal Church in the food pantry lot, 1927 Chicago St. The Pfizer bivalent booster will be available for those 12 and older.
De Pere Hometown Pharmacy

Meijer

- People without internet access or a smartphone can call the Meijer Pharmacy at 2015 Shawano Ave. in Howard to register at 920-496-8110. Once you are registered, Meijer will contact you with a date and time if an appointment becomes available.

Oneida Health Division
Vaccination walk-in clinics are scheduled for:
